Retouched and Repaired

Usually I do minimal editing for the images at this blog. In this case, an exception. With the exposure set for the city lights and observatory, the moon was an overexposed white blur. But luckily the very same evening I also took some shots of the moon. So I grabbed one, scaled it to approximate reality and there you have it.

Contrasts in Societies Via Technology

The foreground features a very accurate sun dial clock. It reflects on an ancient day of appreciation for technology that retained a certain patience. Within the confines of the sun dial lies the Hollywood sign and a set of antennae. As I think reflects our Hollywood culture and a certain desperate impatience therein.

Mariposa @ Griffith Park Observatory

Easily the most difficult shots I ever even got close to getting. Apart from the shot of the butterfly on the pine needles, it was on the fly all around this picnic area. Maddeningly the focus was the most difficult aspect. I have now, after the fact learned to change the focus points as I see fit with a 7D. Switchology held me back here a bit. Composition? Hah! Random. Not as sharp as I would like but hey, these are the few successes of about 50 frames.

I rented this great lens, and had such a good time with it I bought it when I got back to Camera craft. Lens comes with a hood, and I got a polarizing filter. Essential in California sun and glare. It is the Tamrom 18-200mm lens. Yes, 18 to 200! Not a fast lens light wise, but very fast auto focus.

A hearty welcome to visitors from Little Green Footballs, my fellow lizards! To explain to my regular visitors-Charles Johnson has his big "anti-idiotarian" blog. That is a blog for serious discussion of issues deemed worthy by the attentive host. LGF was first famous for exposing the Reuters "fauxtography" or fake shots of phony atrocities by Israel in the summer war in Lebanon. I grew to respect it then.

Charles later earned the anger of the left when he outed the false documents about then President George Bush. This ended Dan Rather's career in network news. Later it turned out his assistant knew the documents were fake, and Dan lost his lawsuit against CBS. Lately the blog has angered the political right by attacking the extremely shrill tone and foolish substance of many pundits, politicians and Republican operatives. Charles calls these things as he see them without regard to partisan ideologies. Now that's what I call an independent thinker.
